LeadershipHQ’s Rise: From Pandemic Mistake to Innovation

From Pandemic Errors to LeadershipHQ’s Triumph

In a year of uncertainty and devastation, leaders from all walks of life are facing their toughest test. Our test was no different. When the pandemic hit, and we had to navigate all the uncertainty, crisis and change with many of our clients being challenged as leaders including ourselves. We had to call on our inner courage. BIG TIME. In the midst of it all I realised a mistake and knew more so than ever the power of trusting my intuition. A few years back I was in a cross roads with my company. I was on a mission to build and grow great, courageous and kind leaders and leadership around the globe and something was missing. I wanted to build this world and grow my company to make this happen with a great team of associates.

…a mistake and how a pandemic gave us a new path

I had decided to rebrand and relaunch a new company called McDonald Inc. in 2020 and turn LeadershipHQ into company and brand which focused on our Awards, Leadership Channel and Podcasts. At the time I was so excited as the team felt the pathway was taking us on a journey to be the Simon Sinek Inc. and Brene Brown of Leadership (and we are not Simon Sinek nor Brene Brown…and hence I know now to stay on MY path). When COVID hit I took a step back and realised that I wanted to make McDonald Inc. into a giant and grow it but why? I am not Simon Sinek or any other leadership consulting company, author or speaker like him or anyone else.

I am who I am and we are LeadershipHQ and we are enough. I had created and worked so hard to build LeadershipHQ over 12 years and it had become such an iconic brand and company for many and I lost sight of our purpose. We don’t need to be a giant to make a difference and impact. I made a mistake and learnt from it.

We can be and are a small giant and make a great impact.

…becoming a SMALL giant

I decided to relaunch and rebrand LeadershipHQ this month in the midst of all this uncertainty and change and stay true to our brand – to be outstanding and courageous.

We are so excited.

So we as we bear witness to the best and worst of leadership, we are being shown that courageous, kind and inclusive leadership is seeing Australians show resilience and come together to move through disaster.

It is timely that LeadershipHQ has launched its refreshed brand, with a new website and programs and courses many virtual to help leaders rise to the current occasion and support their teams and industries to survive—and even thrive—through this year and beyond.

Our programs and workshops range from Emerging Leadership, Women in Leadership and Executive Courses to bite sized and virtual masterclasses and courses as well as free tools and leadership membership. We have also added new people to our amazing team!

Announcing the refreshed brand and the 2020 Outstanding Leadership Awards ceremony, LeadershipHQ is on a mission to build a world of great leaders.

Now, more than ever, the world needs great leaders to help us weather the storms that we are facing.

At its core, leadership is about courage, impact and action. At Leadership HQ we want to help aspiring and current leaders gain the tools to lead with courage, and we want to shine a light on leaders who are making an impact at this time.

In turn, we are so passionate about our 2020 Outstanding Leadership Awards as our winners will be announced on 4 September via an intimate gathering at the Belise, St Pauls Terrace, Brisbane, owing to COVID-19. We are thrilled to also be able to live stream the awards for people across the country to tune in, also, and hear more about the courageous leadership we are seeing in Australia.

A list of the 2020 Outstanding Leadership Awards finalists is available on the Leadership HQ website.

Nominations for the 2021 Outstanding Leadership Awards open on 14 September 2020.

…how did the story start?

Following a forced lifestyle change in 2006, I joined the consulting world and discovered her purpose in inspiring people to learn and grow. With a flair for leadership and strong writing talents, I started the LeadershipHQ blog in 2007. It quickly became a must-read for leaders looking for a more people-centred way of leading.

…big things grow!

With a growing following and the desire to make an even greater impact, I established the LeadershipHQ consulting business in 2008. Since then, we have helped thousands of leaders through development programs, coaching, workshops and masterclasses.

LeadershipHQ continues to deliver on its promise of fun, engaging and highly interactive face-to-face and online learning experiences and personalised coaching that helps people unleash their leadership potential.

…building a movement

LeadershipHQ has stayed true to its roots, I continue to publish the LHQ blog and adding to the company’s thought leadership with the Just Lead Podcast and Leadership Channel Vodcast.

In 2020, LeadershipHQ launched the annual Outstanding Leadership Awards to celebrate and showcase the very best kind, courageous leaders.

I have also published two books, Leadership Attitude and Just Rock It!, which promote the team’s shared belief that leadership is an attitude, a mindset and a choice. Her latest book, First Comes Courage, will be released in late 2020.
