If you follow me on Twitter @leadershipHQ1, and I hope you do, you would have seen my 20 week campaign to attract the legendary Richard Branson to mentor me. I’ve even created my own hashtag #RBMM.
If you don’t ask and you don’t get. And with great reward comes great risk. What I’m trying to say is if you want something you have to go for it! Put yourself out there, take chances, aim high and go hard at your goals and your wildest dreams are within reach.
Think about an amazing goal you would like to achieve. You don’t need to know how you are going to make it happen in the first instance, you just need to have courage and faith to make it happen. What is stopping you? Fear of failure? Worried you’ll look foolish? What do you really have to lose? Great things sometimes happen by chance. Luck is where hard work and opportunity collide, but success isn’t going to fall into your lap and playing it safe won’t make your dreams come true.

Take my #RBMM campaign. I’m not sitting at my desk and just dreaming. I’m taking action and using resources to achieve that goal. I’m making videos and other content, and asking my networks to get caught up in my excitement, so that when I achieve the end result they will feel some satisfaction in helping me get there! Plus, I know I need help and that I can’t do this alone. This is putting ME out there, and letting others know my goal too, which could be seen as scary, and risky by some, but like I said. Reward takes risk. I don’t know how exactly achieving my goal is going to happen, who will be the connection or what event will make Sir Richard pay attention and lean in with me.
I don’t need to know the how, I just have to believe the process.
Women are not generally known for their risk taking. We tend to be the more restrained gender, perhaps due to the feelings of responsibility we have to our family and friends. The women I know you have been successful in business have been willing to take risks and accept opportunities, and obviously I’m not afraid to jump in feet first either. Taking risks creates learning and makes you stand out, setting you apart from the crowd, showing leadership and inspiring and encouraging others to take a chance.
The end goal of the #RBMM campaign is to be mentored by someone I admire, the great Richard Branson. But along the way, I also hope that others not only help me on the journey to achieve my personal goal, but feel inspired and motivated to achieve their own as well.
