International Women’s Day is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions, the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.
The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2013 is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women,” while International Women’s Day 2013 has declared the year’s theme as The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum.
That day was a very special and empowering day for me. As a woman, company director, mother, friend, daughter and speaker; I never thought I would be standing in the place I am right now. And what an amazing place to be standing…
I had the honor to speak in front of 100 fantastic women at Greater Springfield International Women’s Day breakfast. What a wonderful morning with such great energy in the room with over 100 women. Speaking about the Power of the Female Brain, it was the first time in my speaking career that I decided to share a little about my journey. It has been such an emotional, amazing and at times heartbreaking ride for me. I felt safe and honored to be sharing that story in front of these women.
I shared my insights and learnings around the brain with the purpose to educate and empower the women in the room around how unique and amazing their brain truly is; we are different. We have a lean, mean communicating machine! I spoke about the strengths and power of our brains as well as the importance of understanding how thoughts, chemicals, and hormones can affect our brains. It is our most important organ – and what are we doing to take care of it?
My message and why I shared my story that day; begins with the choices we make in our thinking. Several years ago, I had a choice to let where I was at define me, or discover who I truly was and have the courage to go for my dreams.
I knew I could do ANYTHING that I set my thoughts and mind to – and here I am today. There have been times that I have let those negative thoughts sneak into my brain – but I have the power over my brain and as the director of my brain, I didn’t let those thoughts drive the script of my life. Only the empowering and positive thoughts of myself but also the women in my life who are my cheerleaders – and empower me to be the best I can be!
My purpose to create a company where we educate and empower leaders to achieve their dreams and goals – and to take them places they ought to be.
My positive thoughts created the words; which in turn has taken my life into a direction where I put into action my dreams. I am Gaining Momentum as a woman and I wake up every day and say “thank you”.
